The Role of Ethics

Ethics is a central branch of philosophy that examines what is right and wrong. It guides our moral compass and influences our decisions. Philosophers like Aristotle and Kant have laid the groundwork for ethical theories that continue to shape our understanding of morality.

Aristotelian Virtue Ethics

Aristotle's virtue ethics emphasizes character and the importance of developing good habits. According to Aristotle, achieving eudaimonia, or human flourishing, is the ultimate goal of life. This involves cultivating virtues such as courage, temperance, and wisdom.

“The good for man is an activity of the soul in accordance with virtue.” - Aristotle

By focusing on character rather than rules, virtue ethics offers a holistic approach to ethical living.
